Cold weather safety tips (borrowed from the Pasco Fire Department):
The area is already freezing, and we are about to get colder with another storm on the way! The Tri-Cities does not get this cold very often, which finds people not prepared for keeping warm. All too often people use incorrect heating sources to try to keep the chill out. Please help us spread a winter safety message:
-Do not use heating sources indoor that are designed to be used outdoors.
-Never use your stove or oven to heat your house.
-Make sure chimneys are clean, and have your home heaters inspected every year.
-Every home should have a CO (Carbon Monoxide) Alarm on every level of the home, and working smoke alarms on every level of the home and in each sleeping area.
-If your pipes freeze, do not use a torch to thaw them. Use heater tape, a space heater with at least a 3 foot cleared area around it, or call a plumber.
